Rap Jump

Mele Cascades Waterfall, Efate Island, Vanuatu - Dec. 2006

A rap jump is similar to a traditional rappelling descent down a cliff but the main difference is that the rap jump is done facing straight down!!

The waterfall was about 50 meters (Over 150 feet) straight down. I believe the technique was developed by commandos so that they can see where they are heading plus it frees up one hand for them to carry a pistol and aim at enemy targets on the way down.
