Yasur Volcano

Tanna Island Vanuatu - July 15/16 2017
During a break on a 7 week volcano expedition in Vanuatu (mainly to Marum Crater on Ambrym Island) we made a side trip to the island of Tanna, home to Yasur volcano. Yasur is one of the most active volcanoes in the world, with explosive eruptions every few minutes. We visited the summit a couple of times, both during the daytime and at night. We were treated to some brilliant explosions, and some dramatic photo and video opportunities. This was my second time visiting Yasur. The last time I was here was in 2007 when I got married at the crater's edge.

Watch as my good friend Geoff Mackley gets a little TOO close to one of the eruptions as lava bombs get hurled through the air.
Amazing night time Strombolian-style explosions, looking down inside the crater of Yasur volcano.
