Ice Fog

Whitehorse, Yukon - Feb. 2008

During the longest cold snap in recent memory, ice fog formed every night in the city of Whitehorse as the overnight temperature dropped down to the -40C range. Moisture in the atmosphere from the Yukon River, car exhaust and even buildings condensed into a thick fog that spread across the city each night.

A row of cars are left with their engines running in the cold, just in case the engines get too cold to start.

Looking down one of the main streets... It's just too cold. Everyone is inside, keeping warm.
