Ice Climbing On Frozen Waterfalls

Johnston Canyon, Banff National Park, Alberta - Feb. 17, 2007

While in Alberta I headed to Johnston Canyon which is inside Banff National Park. In the winter at the Upper Falls, the water freezes and forms spectacular blue columns of ice. A great deal of caution is required in the area, especially since many of the hanging "daggers" are not well attached to the cliff side and could fall at any time. The largest waterfall that I climbed was about 40 meters.
