A vicious winter storm began
to hit the Toronto area overnight with heavy snow changing to
rain, then to freezing rain and back into snow again. Traffic
across the city came to a crawl and at the airport, flights were
delayed and canceled. The buildup of ice on trees caused many
of them to snap, some landing on cars. Even my chase vehicle became
completely glazed over with a layer of ice covering my weather
instruments and lights. The driving conditions became extremely
dangerous with hundreds of motor vehicle accidents reported across
the area. Of course all this occurs right at the height of the
holiday travel season.
