Pacific Storm Watching

Tofino, British Columbia - Feb. 22-23, 2008

The west coast of Vancouver Island is a great place to watch Pacific winter storms roll in and the Wickaninnish Inn in Tofino is built right on the water's edge for just such a purpose. In the winter months, people come from all over to watch the storms. How could I not go there?

Big, crashing waves, all day long.

Every year, people are injured or swept out to sea.

Because of its position on the Pacific "Ring of Fire", the area is in a tsunami warning zone.

The secret "Blowhole" where waves squeeze into a narrow channel and then explode upwards.
